Best Times to Visit Disney World
When deciding the best time to visit Disney World---the park that Mickey built-- several factors should be taken into consideration to make your visit most enjoyable and exciting for the whole family. There are times of season which may be better than others to visit Disney World or EPCOT.
Early January to mid February
The weather is cooler this time of year, and can even have spells of cold whether, but if you’re dressed right, it most likely won’t be troublesome. Quite often the weather will average around 70 degrees F, very pleasant and most likely sunny. Cues at the parks are much shorter and waiting times for the most popular attraction rides will be minimal. Keep in mind that on occasion, rides may be closed for refurbishment. Visit the individual websites of those parks you would like to visit to make sure that the rides you want to visit will be available.
May
Quite often May a quiet month for attractions and theme parks. The weather is normally sunny and warm without being too humid, and crowds are minimal.
July-August
Most visitors tend to visit during the summer months of July and August, when children are out of school. That may be your best option, however,if you and your party can arrange alternate months to visit, here are some suggestions for less crowded and more pleasant visits.
Late August and September
Although still very hot and humid, these months will provide a good time to visit. Many families with children are preparing for the return to school and have had their vacations. Make sure you plan to visit the water parks in the mornings as late afternoon showers still take place during this time of year.
November-December
The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas has been ideal, with the parks decorated for Christmas, but not much crowds. Cooler in temperature, but crowds decline due to preparation for Christmas. The decorations will normally be in place, stores will still provide excellent sale prices from their Thanksgiving Day Bonanza Sales, and many parks will have started their Christmas Parades or firework displays. Check individual attraction websites for specific information.
BUSIER TIMES AT WALT DISNEY WORLD
Christmas – December 25 – 31
Busy, Busy, Busy but the entertainment and décor are fantastic! The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas has been a top choice, with the parks decorated for Christmas, but not much crowds. This has been changing as crowds are getting bigger as more people enjoy the holiday season at the parks. In December the Magic Kingdom closes early some nights and weather may be too cool for a splash at the water parks.
Easter:
Whether it falls in March or April, Easter will be extremely busy but weather should be very pleasant. This includes President’s Day. Disney does not do a special parade for Easter.
If you do visit during a busy time of year, be sure to make good use of Fastpass to minimize your time waiting for a ride and increase your enjoyment.
Crowds
Walt Disney World is less crowded certain times of the year ---see above. The park also adjusts the hours of operation. Check the park operating schedule for date of your visit. The longer the park operating hours the larger the crowds and usually more parades.
Extended Park Hours & Special Events
The busiest times of year are crowded, but the parks also have side benefits: extended hours, plus special parades etc.
During summer, the Magic Kingdom is often open until 11 p.m. or later; during Christmas and New Years, it will probably be open until midnight, and Epcot until 10 p.m.
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney's Hollywood Studios are great fun after dark, and you'll often find a special night parade, fireworks, and/or shows that only happen when the park is open late. Peak periods do have their benefits.
As for special events, many people would consider Disney Christmas -- with spectacular lights and festivities-- a best time to visit, despite the crowds.
The calendar at the Walt Disney World site shows park hours, parades, fireworks and special events.
If you are going when park is crowded purchase a Fastpass to minimize your time waiting for rides and increase your enjoyment
Valuable Tips
* Upon entering a theme park, go straight to the most popular ride first and ride it a couple of times.
* Walk the Left to Right route through the park and you’ll get on park rides that have little if any waiting time. Most visitors follow the crowds and travel through the park right to left.
* Fill up on a hearty breakfast before you get to the parks as meals can be expensive.
* If using a baby stroller, bring something to tie to it so you can ‘easily’ identify it from the hundreds of others parked outside a ride.
* Decide on a meeting point and time in case the group gets accidentally separated.
